LOA Toolkit: Pay During Leave

Short-Term Disability (STD)

Benefits begin on the eighth day of disability (after seven calendar days).
Eligibility: Absence due to your medical condition that lasts more than seven days, regular part-time or full-time active non-CA employee enrolled in The Hartford’s STD coverage.
How to submit a claim: Call The Hartford at 888.980.9382.
Pay: The Hartford pays STD benefits at 60% of weekly salary up to a max of $1,620 per week; Aerospace Supplemental Sick pays 30% of weekly salary for a total of 90% for the first 90 days (13 weeks). If still disabled, Hartford pays STD benefits at 60% of weekly salary up to a max of $1,620 per week; Aerospace Supplemental Sick pays 20% of weekly salary for a total of 80% on the 91st day (13 weeks). Aerospace Supplemental Sick Pay stops at 6 months.
Duration: Up to 52 weeks.   
STD Evidence of Coverage

California State Disability Insurance (SDI)

Benefits begin the eighth day of disability (after seven calendar days).     
Requirements: Absence due to a medical condition that lasts more than seven days.
Eligibility: Regular part-time or regular full-time active California employees
Register and file your SDI claim with EDD after your 2nd day of leave.
File a Disability Claim in SDI Online:
File claims: Claims must be filed within 49 days after the first day of leave. If submitted late, benefits could be lost.
Pay: EDD pays SDI benefits at 60% of weekly salary up to a max of $1,620 per week; Aerospace Supplemental Sick pays 30% of weekly salary for total of 90% for the first 90 days (13 weeks). If still disabled, EDD pays SDI benefits at 60% of weekly salary up to a max of $1,620 per week; Aerospace Supplemental sick pays 20% of weekly salary for total of 80% on the 91st day (13 weeks). Aerospace pay stops at 6 months.
Duration: Up to 52 weeks.

Supplemental Sick

Benefits begin: On the eighth calendar day of absence due to disability (after seven calendar days).
Eligibility: Absent due to a medical condition that lasts more than seven consecutive calendar days. Temporary, regular part-time or regular full-time active. Eligible for SDI/STD/Workers Compensation.
Pay: Full-time employees receive supplemental sick leave payments for 40 hours of leave per week. Part-time employees receive supplemental sick leave payments according to the employee’s scheduled workweek. Paid by Aerospace.
How to request pay: Provide Payroll with proof of SDI Benefits received from EDD. STD or Workers’ Compensation proof of benefits is provided by each carrier directly to Payroll.
Duration: Up to 26 weeks/1040 hours.
Other: Supplemental sick leave pay is offset by payments from SDI/STD/Workers Compensation. Must apply for SDI/STD/Workers Compensation prior to receiving supplemental pay.

  Sick Leave Policy

Long-Term Disability (LTD)

Benefits begin: After 180 days of disability.
Eligibility: Absence due to medical condition that lasts more than six months, regular part-time or regular full-time active employee enrolled in The Hartford’s LTD coverage.
How to submit a claim:
Non-CA – Call The Hartford at 888.980.9382; CA –  Call EBSC 310.336.2400
Pay: 60% of monthly salary up to a maximum of $10,000 *.
Paid by: The Hartford.
Duration: Until return to work or maximum duration of benefits is reached.
Other: LTD benefits integrate with STD/SDI from week 26 to week 52.

* If enrolled in Supplemental LTD, Unum pays an additional 10% up to a combined maximum monthly benefit of $15,000.

Paid Parental Leave (PPL)

Benefits begin: For non-birth parents, benefits begin on the first day of the child’s birth, adoption, or foster placement. For birth mothers, benefits begin the first day following doctor’s release to work after STD/SDI.
Eligibility: Regular part-time or regular full-time.
How to request this pay: Contact The Hartford directly at 888.980.9382 and EBSC to submit proof of birth for PPL Quota approval.
Pay: 100% of regular pay, including any state-mandated benefits based on the employee’s work location.
Duration: Maximum of 160 hours, taken consecutively or intermittently within 12 months of the birth, adoption, or foster placement.

California Paid Family Leave (PFL)

Benefits begin the first day of absence.
Requirements: Time off needed to care for a child, parent, in-law, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, spouse or registered domestic partner; or to bond with a new child.
Eligibility: Regular part-time or regular full-time active California employees.
Register with EDD prior to (or on) the first day of leave.
File claims: Claims must be filed no less than 9 days -but not later than 49 days – after the first day of leave. If submitted late, benefits could be lost.
File your Paid Family Leave Claim in SDI Online
Pay: 60% of weekly salary up to a maximum of $1,620. Paid by the State of California through EDD.
Duration: Up to eight weeks in a 12-month period.
Other: Vacation pay may be combined with PFL benefits to provide full wages up to a maximum of eight weeks. PFL must run concurrent with PPL.

Workers’ Compensation

Benefits begin on the 4th calendar day of a non-hospitalized disability or on the 1st day of hospitalization.
Eligibility: Absence due to work-related illness or injury in accordance with state law. All employees are eligible.
How to submit claims: Report any workplace accident, injury or illness, no matter how minor, as soon as possible to your supervisor and the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Department. Be sure to follow these steps to avoid delays or denial. Claims are coordinated through the EHS Department.
Pay: Determined and paid by Zurich.
Duration: Evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Other: Supplemental sick leave, SDI, STD, LTD, or actual vacation time may be used, as permitted by corporate practice. All such payments will be integrated with any wage reimbursement benefits that you may receive. At no time will any employee receive a greater total payment than their regular compensation.           

Sick Leave Policy

Occasional Sick 

Benefits begin  the first calendar day of absence due to disability.
Eligibility: Absence due to your own medical condition or the illness of a family member. Casual, temporary, regular part-time, or regular full-time active employee.
How to request this pay: Use code S in EZTime.
Pay: Provides full salary continuation for brief periods based on eligibility, available hours of sick leave, and management approval.
Paid by: Aerospace
Duration: Five workdays.
Other: Occasional Sick Leave may be used during the waiting period for SDI/STD.             

Sick Leave Policy

Vacation Pay

Benefits begin on the first day of absence.
Eligibility: Regular part-time or regular full-time active employee.

Pay: Paid per day up to your vacation balance.
Paid by: Aerospace Duration: Up to hours accrued to date.
Other: Vacation time may be used to cover the seven-day waiting period for SDI.
